A ONE ACT PLAY
ACT I
LIFE SAVING ADVICE FROM YOUR BODIES ORGANS
(Scene
opens with the landlord of the body organs headed for the lazy boy with a
fast food meal in his clutches)
EYES: Attention all body organs:
The landlord is headed for the Lazy Boy chair, and he has a suspicious
looking sack (with golden arches on it) in his hand!
BRAIN: All brain stations beware,
oxygen deprivation is about to take place (from being sedentary for too many
hours.) Many or you brain cells will
die, sending the landlord one step closer to dementia and severe lethargy.
CONSIOUSNESS OF BRAIN: Hey
guys, I’m doing my best to try to motivate the landlord into exercising more
and being more active everyday. This
would prevent a lot of you brain cells from being murdered.
BRAIN: Sometimes the
landlord is motivated by the conscious to exercise, but without the bloodstream
bringing good nutrient dense, energy rich foods up here the landlord is too
tired to exercise.
BLOODSTREAM: Hey Brain, don’t
blame me! I keep asking the digestive
organs crew for more nutrients to send your way.
DIGESTIVE ORGANS CREW: The
landlord has a crazy idea that losing weight means skipping breakfast and
any substantial lunch. So sorry brain
and bloodstream, we have nothing to give you!
BRAIN: Danger, Danger
..Attention all vital organs: We may be at risk of starving to death! Drastic measures must be taken immediately.
Therefore as command central, I am ordering the metabolism to be slowed
down (so fewer calories are needed to fuel the landlord).
I am also ordering the fat storage enzymes to put a higher percentage
of proteins, carbs and fats into fat storage.
GENES & ENZYMES:
We will be deciding where to put all this extra fat. We like to put it especially around the middle,
0n the hips, thighs and underside of arms. We decide according to sex and
family genetics.
EYES: Oh No! All members of the digestive organs crew, man
your battle stations - the landlord is digging into his fast food dinner.
MOUTH: Here
it comes; it’s a cheeseburger, fries and a coke. Although the burger is only 20 grams of fat
by the weight of the burger, it is actually almost 50% fat calories. The cheese is processed chemicals with 70% of
the calories being artery clogging fat. The
landlord thought he was doing well in ordering a small fries, but it has 220
worthless calories with 47% of those calories from fat. And that coke has 10 plus teaspoons of sugar
and 162 useless calories. It’s easy
to see how he consumes 40 plus tsp. of sugar a day, it’s hidden in all the
processed foods.
STOMACH: I need a quick decision
from the digestive organs crew and genes & enzymes about what to do with
all this excess fat? This guys pants are already too tight!
LIVER: Since our glycogen
stores are already stocked, I will convert the dietary fat to body fat.
If only the landlord would eat more fruits, veggies, complex carbs
and lean sources of protein. I could do a much better job. Stand by while I manufacture a lot of extra
cholesterol in order to digest this stuff.
HEART: Wait a minute,
with all this extra fat the landlord is carrying around, what is it, twenty
to thirty pounds of excess, is making me pump a lot harder. Without a good cardiovascular program, I am
getting weaker but having to work harder.
This is a real strain on me! HELP!
BRAIN: We know how you
feel, heart, we are finding it harder to run things. The weak plumbing and high pressure is making
me worry about springing a leak, and sending the landlord to a scary and expensive
hospital trip. If he would just eat
right and exercise, things could be quite different.
BLOODSTREAM: With a few complex
carbs and less sugar (whole grains, not white refined flours and sugars) we
could supply the landlord with some high quality energy so he could exercise
and not experience the glucose lows that make him feel so tired all day.
I hate this low blood sugar status because that’s when I’m most susceptible
to viral and bacterial infections.
LIVER: I wish the landlord
would listen when fitness professionals tell him to eat more complex carbs
because they are also full of fiber which I really need to keep this guys cholesterol from going off the charts.
HEART: Lower cholesterol
would really make my job easier. I
am very stressed and fear that part of me is about
to die, (heart attack) unless some healthier habits are adopted.
EYES: Listen guys this landlord
buys way to much processed foods, fast foods and junk foods. It’s all homogenized, separated, bleached, hydrogenated,
sugar added, de-germinated, dyed, preserved and artificialized. There are
only, empty, do nothing for us, calories left.
HEART: Then, after getting
no nutritional support, he just sits around and lets us rust and deteriorate,
long before our time.
CONSIOUSNESS: How do we get
the landlord to stop these negative behaviors and feel the joys of living
with healthy, happy body organs again?
